A Doctor's Confession to Apache County

And why, despite all, I still do what I do

Dear Friend,

Confessions are tough. Real tough. But, sometimes a confession can set the record straight, and I want to give credit where credit is due.

Years ago something happened to me that changed my life forever. Let me tell you my story.

Back then I was going to BYU studying construction management, and playing football. Yes, I played with Steve Young (my only claim to fame). I was hit in the head at football practice one day and it caused severe damage to my neck. I couldn't move my right arm at first, and it felt like it was on fire. I went to a neurologist and he said that I had slight nerve damage. I did not think it was slight! I lost most of the strength in my right arm, I could hardly grasp objects in my right hand, my right thumb was numb for months and it took over a year to get my strength back in my arm. For years after the football injury I had severe pain in my neck and shoulder. I went to many doctors, but no one was able to help me with the pain. But there's more.

When I was about 31 years old, I was in the home building business, and I built a house for a doctor. I asked him if he thought he could help my neck and shoulder pain, he said he thought he could. My new doctor does an exam, takes some films, and then 'adjusts' my spine. The adjustment doesn't hurt, it actually feels good. I get relief, and I have hardly any pain! Oh, did I mention that this doctor is a chiropractor? His treatment works so well for me and I'm so impressed with the other 'miracles' I see in his office that I eventually decided to attend chiropractic school myself.

Now for Hunter Jarvis. About a year ago, Hunter was 15 months old and his mother noticed he was having trouble walking. Imagine a young boy of this age not able to run and play with ease. I adjusted Hunter seven times over the course of the next two months and he responded great. Hunter loves to get adjusted; he jumps right on my table when he comes in. After two months he was again able to walk straight without any problems, and continues to have no problems to this day.

Let me tell you about another patient of mine, JR Pena. When JR came into my office he was using a cane and could hardly walk. JR also had debilitating seizures several times a week. JR was miserable. After twelve treatments at my office JR is walking fine and his MD's can't even provoke a seizure.

Several times a day patients thank me for helping them with their health problems. But I can't really take the credit.

My confession is that I've never healed anyone of anything. What I do is perform a specific spinal adjustment to remove nerve pressure and the body responds by healing itself. We get tremendous results. It's as simple as that!

It's strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their neck, and shoulder pain and problems. Also they come to me with their headaches, migraines, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allergies, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, just to name a few. Here is what some of my patients have to say:

"After years of rodeo and a work accident I was having seizures and could hardly walk. After three visits with Dr. Crockett I gave up my cane and my pain was 85% gone. After twelve visits I feel like a new man, no seizures and walking better than I have in years" - (JR Pena)

"I suffer from migraines. About 6 months ago I started to see Dr. Crockett. He straightened my spine and neck out. Since then I've been Migraine free! Thanks Dr. Crockett" - (Dodee Wallace)

"I've gone to Dr. Crockett several times for upper back pain. After five visits I am pain free!" - (Ayn Lee)

Being a chiropractor can be tough because there's a host of so-called experts out there. They tell people a lot of things that are just plain ridiculous about my profession. But the studies speak for themselves; like the Virginia study that showed that over 90% of patients who saw a chiropractor were satisfied with their results. That's just incredible!

Some people think that if you go to a chiropractor you will be twisted and cracked. In our office many people choose to be adjusted with a non-force or low force technique that involves no twisting or cracking. Another benefit of chiropractic is an enhanced immune system. Peer-reviewed research indicates that the immune system may be enhanced by chiropractic adjustments. The immune system is the system that helps the body fight colds, the flu, and many other sicknesses. Although all people respond different to care, maybe you won't be running out to the doctor as much once you start chiropractic care. This is especially important if you are self-employed. And an entire week of care in my office may cost what you could pay for one visit elsewhere.

Great care and great service is our motto. My qualifications: I am a Cum Laude graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College. I've been entrusted to take care of tiny babies up to and including the more seasoned from a very young person like Hunter Jarvis to people like my great aunts Ethel Hext and Anna Richie.

- L. Craig Crockett, D.C.
